Privacy policy
8Score is an app for keeping score in matches (billiards and other sports). This page explains what data the app collects, what it is used for and what rights you have over it.
1. Data we collect
When you use the app without signing in
- Match data: the player names you enter, scores and game history. Stored on your device, with a backup copy on our server tied to a random device ID created by the app (not a hardware ID).
When you create an account
- Username and display name.
- Password: never sent or stored as-is. The app only stores a hash of it (PBKDF2-SHA256 with a random salt).
- Profile photo (if you choose one).
- The account's match data and online groups.
- Block list: the usernames of the people you have blocked.
- Reports you send: the reported person's username, display name and profile photo, the reason, any extra description, and your username (or your device ID if you are not signed in).
- Premium status: the app records that the account has bought Premium. Payment is handled by Google Play or the Apple App Store; the app never receives your card number or payment details.
Advertising
The app includes Google AdMob. When ads are turned on, the Android and iOS apps show a full-screen ad when you start a new match (not during your first 3 matches). AdMob may use the advertising identifier (Advertising ID on Android, IDFA on iOS), your IP address (from which an approximate location is inferred), device information and your interactions with ads to show and measure ads and to prevent ad fraud, as described in how Google uses data and the Google Privacy Policy.
- iOS: the app only uses the IDFA if you tap "Allow" when asked for tracking permission. You can change this in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Android: you can delete or reset your advertising ID in Settings → Google → Ads.
- EEA, United Kingdom and Switzerland: the app asks for your consent before personalising ads; you can change your choice at any time from the ⋯ menu → Ad privacy.
- Premium users see no ads. The web version has no ads.
2. How we use the data
- To save your matches and sync them across your devices.
- To let other players add you to a match or group by your username; your display name and profile photo appear on their scoreboard.
- Live viewing links: when the match owner (signed in) turns on a link for a match, anyone with the link can see that match's player names, colours, score and most recent play, without signing in. The link does not show usernames or profile photos. The match owner can turn the link off at any time; the link is also deleted automatically 7 days after the match ends, or when the match or account is deleted.
- To activate and restore Premium.
- To handle reports: removing inappropriate profile photos or names and locking accounts that break the rules.
- User support: the developer may look at account data when needed to fix a problem or handle a request from you.
We do not sell personal data and do not use it for any purpose other than those listed above.
3. Where data is stored and third parties
- Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore): stores accounts and match data.
- Cloudinary: stores profile photos.
- Google Play Billing and the Apple App Store: process Premium purchases.
- Google AdMob: advertising (see section 1).
Data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS).
4. Retention and deletion
Data is kept until you delete it. You can delete your account at any time right in the app: Account → Delete account. This permanently deletes your username, display name, profile photo, password (hash), all matches, the groups you created and your membership in other groups. Step-by-step instructions and how to request deletion by email: Delete account.
Data from using the app without signing in can be removed by clearing the app's data or uninstalling it; the backup tied to your device ID can be deleted on request by email.
5. Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from children.
6. Changes to this policy
When the policy changes, we update this page and the date at the top.
